How do you show yourself love?

Do you treat yourself to a massage? Do you go out to eat alone? Do you go for long quiet walks?

I would think that the answers vary for everyone. The way you treat yourself teaches others how to treat you.

I show myself love by standing up for myself. I'm a people pleaser by nature and trying to break through that has been a struggle especially in my adult years. I've been put in a handful of situations lately, both at work and in my personal life where I've had to stand my ground and set clear boundaries. It was uncomfortable but necessary.

Saying no, when I am not up to it or simply don't want to, is important to my mental health.

Another way I show myself love is by taking time to have some much-needed silence. Quiet walks and afternoons at the library and bookstores are so healing for my spirit.

Another way I'm supposed to take care of myself is by drinking plenty of water, eating my fruits, and vegetables, and making sure I get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. This is where I am struggling quite a bit in my daily routines. Sometimes (well actually more than sometimes) I insist on treating myself by using chocolatey goodness, sugary drinks, and fried yummies. Therein lies the difference between loving myself and loving food. I keep telling myself that I will do right by my body and my body will do right by me.
